Science Museum London

Overview - Working closely with the Estates Department and maintenance staff, we have been involved in surveying, recording and drawing all the 20+ plant rooms, and services throughout the floors including: Supply & Extract Ventilation, LPHW Heating, Chilled Water, Condenser Water, Hot & Cold Water, Mains Water, Boosted Water, Gas, Compressed Air, Sprinklers, and Dry Risers. These are drawn in 3D using AutoCAD MEP and put together into one compressed 3D model Navisworks file.

Combined 3D and Isometric Cut Views

Standard A0 or A1 framed drawings can also be created to combine Navisworks 3D model images alongside cut isometric views taken from the AutoCAD 3D drawing. As they are created seperately to the 3D model, they reduce the file size considerably.

Framed Cut Views

Standard A0 or A1 framed drawings showing a cut isometric view from the 3D AutoCAD model are useful stand-alone drawings to view whole systems.

System Schematics

The extensive survey required to generate the 3D model automatically enables the creation of system schematic drawings. These schematic layouts are useful in aiding maintenance, and provide design information for engineers seeking to extend or alter the system in the event of gallery changes.

Locating Critical Valves

Schematic layouts such as this Dry Riser layout are essential documents as they can locate critical valves.

V&A Museum London

Projects: Projects

V&A Museum London - Overview

The V&A Museum where very interested to know what their neighbours at the Science Museum were doing regarding drawings, and so invited Floyd Davis Limited to provide a presentation of the CAD work that had been carried out. They subsequently commissioned the company to survey and draw two of their existing plant rooms in both 2D and 3D format.

V&A Museum London - PR 5 3D Layout

PR 5 was the most challenging of the two plant rooms due to it's age and irregular layout. All mechanical, electrical and plumbing services were surveyed and drawn.

V&A Museum London - PR 300

PR 300 was the least challenging of the two plant rooms with it's uniform modern layout. All mechanical, electrical and plumbing services were surveyed and drawn.

Oakington Manor School - Wembley

Overview - Architects ICA Projects Ltd

were commissioned to remodel the schools 9 acre site in 3 phases over 5 years.

The architect called on Floyd Davis Limited to create a 3D model of the existing buildings.

Working alongside the architect we were then able to produce a proposed model of the whole site using his 2D design plans, sections and elevations.

The 3D model was then used, along with the architects 2D drawings for presentation to the schools head teachers and governors for discussion.

On finalising the design, the 3D model was presented to the planning authorities to successfully enable planning permission for site construction to commence.

Piccadilly Neon Sign - Lighting up London

Lighting up London - Overview

Piccadilly Circus: The world-renowned neon sign has been one of London's icons for over a century and is unmissable for the 100million people who pass through Piccadilly circus every year. It has been owned by one of the leading real estates companies in the UK, Landsec since 1968.

The project was carried out while Floyd Davis was working for Jnoad Limited, and was both an interesting, and challenging survey and draw.

This was the precurser to the digital, and current LED screen.

Lighting up London - CAD Challenge

The ductwork which provides cooling to offset the substantial heat generated by the lights behind the screen, was upgraded to suit the new heating load. The 19m radius curvature of the building presented additional challenges!

Furness Primary School, North London

Furness Primary School - Overview

Architects ICA Projects Ltd were commissioned by the schools governing body to add a new nursery extension to the existing victorian buildings
Following on from the success of 3D modelling drawing work at Oakington Manor School, the architect called on Floyd Davis Limited to create a 3D model of the existing buildings.
Working alongside the architect we were then able to produce a proposed model of the new nursery extension using his 2D design plans, sections and elevations.
The 3D model was then used, along with the architects 2D drawings for presentation to the schools head teachers and governors for discussion.
On finalising the design, the 3D model was presented to the planning authorities to successfully enable planning permission for site construction to commence.

RAF Club - Piccadilly, London

The Royal Air Force Club was formally founded in 1918 and acquired the freehold of 128 Piccadilly in 1985. An extensive site survey was carried out for the new roof top air handling plant and distribution supply/extract ductwork to facilitate new bedrooms. A new louvred plant enclosure was also detailed and drawn to house the new HVAC equipment.

Wellington House, London

Wellington House London - Overview

Wellington House The refurbishment of this building at the heart of London was completed in 2012 and offers 59 high quality residential apartments above ground floor retail space.

Navisworks 3D software was used to co-ordinate the soil and vent stacks from roof level, and through the nine floors to basement level to ensure that every kitchen, utility room, toilet and en-suite shower in each apartment had wastes connected.

Wellington House - Roof Co-ordination

The rooftop features a terrace with stunning views of the River Thames and London skyline. However, the majority of the space is taken up with dozens of photovoltaic solar panels, mechanical services plant, pipework, ventilation and pump room, satellite dishes, soil vent stacks and a large revolving telescopic window cleaning and maintenance crane!
Again, Navisworks 3D software was idealy suited in order to ensure safe location of all the items whilst allowing for the radius of the crane swing.

Wellington House - Mechanical Services

Each high quality apartment was fitted with a prefabricated service pod to contain the hot water services, underfloor heating manifold and flat duct ventilation system. Despite the variety of the apartment layouts, these pods where required to be generic and Navisworks 3D software was invaluable in ensuring that the pods worked in all apartment settings.
